Onward and upward

The first recorded blog post I wrote was on January 3, 2017. I started out writing about the impact of reaching un certain age and easing from work life into the [surely] leisurely life of a retiree. It wasn’t long, however, before I transitioned into more of what the blogosphere likes to call “lifestyle” posts. I did so because a) I’d moved on psychologically and didn’t have that much more to say about being retired, b) lifestyle posts are just more fun, and c) I soon found myself busier than ever.

Three years later, I am still only “demi” retired. When my daughter started her own business, I signed on happily to help her. I’ve learned all sorts of new stuff and am truly enjoying it. I should add that she’s a very accommodating boss, and neither the work nor the time involved ever feel oppressive. Did I mention that she’s in the wine business? That I get to taste fabulous wines, use my French and Italian, and on occasion meet winemakers and wine industry professionals from multiple hemispheres? What’s not to like?

But all of the above is almost an aside to what I really wanted to say on the anniversary of my first post.

It’s a simple thank you.

First, thank you to those of you who take the time to read, like, comment, share. From the start I imagined a blog that would spark a conversation, and I love hearing your reactions, your questions, your reflections, your personal experiences.

Second, thank you to the many other bloggers I’ve come to know and appreciate during the last three years. You give me a hearty laugh, remind me to be grateful, allow me to share your travels, recommend a book I never would have known about, or turn out a batch of the best snickerdoodle cookies I’ve ever tasted (In Diane’s Kitchen… here’s the link)..

And so… onward and upward, just like that staircase in the photo, taken at the famous horseshoe curve of the Pennsylvania Railroad, in Blair County, PA.

What can be better in retirement than spending it with your daughter? You are a lucky lady. Thank you so much for the nice comment about the snickerdoodles and for posting the link. You are so kind. Have a great weekend!

Now that sounds like a lovely way to enjoy life after full time work. You not only get to support your daughter but you keep the brain active and be sociable. Perfect combination.
I shall raise a glass in celebration of your anniversary 🙂

And thank YOU for the interesting posts! Semi-retirement in the wine business sounds much more interesting than mine as a freelance online editor. Mine’s easy, in that I don’t have to go anywhere, but there’s no wine involved unless I get my butt to the store:)

I’m new here to your lovely blog. Congratulations for staying with it for these years!

But you get to have fun with Wine and work with your daughter? Now… that’s my kind of WORK!

And… isn’t Diane fabulous! Her recipes are wonderful!

Here’s to many more years of blogging for you and I’m happy to be a new follower! 🙂

Hello there. My latest piece finds me talking about some of the things you discuss here. You still work, as do I (I’m unpaid).

One of the things that life is all about is finding a good balance, no matter what your age. Take care.
