I am firm in the belief that pictures often tell a story better than words, however artfully strung together. Our visit to Prince Edward Island was magical in more ways than I can articulate, but surely one of the loveliest experiences was our trip back in time at the Green Gables Heritage Place in Cavendish. The Campbell property, where author Lucy Maud Montgomery spent much of her childhood with her aunt and uncle, inspired the setting for Anne’s story. If you’ve watched the beautifully interpreted Netflix series, Anne with an E, you may find these photos familiar. In all honesty, I somehow never read the Anne of Green Gables books; but now, having learned more about the prolific writer—arguably PEI’s most famous citizen—and having seen this captivating place, they have jumped to the top of my queue.

Next time… dunes and lighthouses.

Nice hat, I would have tried it as well. What fun visiting a heritage home. I loved the kitchen shot, it reminded me of my great-grandmother’s kitchen. Can’t wait for the dunes and lighthouses.

Well there you go! You learn something everyday! Thanks so much for sharing ‘Anne’s’ back story. I have never read the book and must pick it up to see why it has been so enduring. Mel

What a fantastic experience! I adore Anne of Green Gables with Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst and Barbara Hershey. I never read the books either but maybe when I retire I will take the opportunity. I just added the Netflix version to my watch list. 🙂
